Description
WBT traffic queueing back to the freeway interchange and then backing up onto I-15 mainline. Likely more than a signal timing fix due to the sheer amount of congestion in the area, but short term fix would be to add more green time to WBT movements throughout the corridor. Traffic queueing back onto I-15 mainline is a serious safety issue.
Bottlenecking between Millpond and Center street exacerbates the problem. While the EB 6-lane cross section at least helps it has a large amount of under-utilized capacity because it narrows down to a 5-lane cross-section at Center Street. Capacity improvements are desperately needed for Pioneer Crossing AND alternative routes for East-West travel need to be implemented (Pony Express Parkway Extension to Vineyard Connector being a prime example).
Socioeconomic projections have Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs more than doubling (and coming close to tripling) their populations in the future, but we're not seeing a doubling of the roadway capacity on these major east-west corridors. While I've lived in Eagle Mountain (the past 5 years) the population has ALREADY doubled.

With that being said, there are several other plans in the works. It is being proposed at the May 10th commission meeting that Pioneer crossing be turned into flex lanes. This means that during the morning commute the East bound traffic would have more lanes, and then in the evening the westbound traffic would have more lanes. This is the quickest solution we will have until our roads can be built.
Unfortunately, the process to build roads is much lengthier than the process to build subdivisions. Here is where you can find the process of building a road; https://site.utah.gov/connect/projects/. There have been several proposed East/West roads in Utah's Unified Transportation Plan.
An East/West project that has already been funded and will begin soon is the 2100 North freeway. You can find information on that project here; https://mountainview.udot.utah.gov/#/.
